The UPV stood out as one of the most awarded institutions of the event. In addition to receiving the two prizes corresponding to its students—one in the female category, awarded to Cristina Munar Machio, and one in the male category, awarded to Andrés Luque Sáiz—the university was also honored with the awards for the best overall male and female university athletes in the Valencian university system. These distinctions highlight the UPV’s leadership in promoting high-level sports alongside academic excellence.
Awards were also presented to the top recent graduates from each university. Representing the UPV, Nuria López Romero and Pablo Martínez García were recognized for their outstanding achievements in both academics and athletics.
Organized by the Fundación Trinidad Alfonso, the event brought together rectors, vice-rectors, sports directors, and other institutional representatives from universities across the region. Speaking on behalf of the foundation, its director, Juan Miguel Gómez, reflected on the nine-year history of the interuniversity program, which continues to adapt and expand to meet the evolving needs of students. He emphasized that the initiative aligns perfectly with Juan Roig’s philanthropic focus on supporting both sports and higher education.
The event concluded with closing remarks from the Rector of the Catholic University of Valencia, José Manuel Pagán Agulló, who thanked the foundation for renewing its interuniversity agreement and praised the values that sport instills in university communities.
A group photo and a moment of remembrance for the communities affected by the severe flooding in the province of Valencia last October closed the ceremony. The participation of the UPV’s rector reaffirmed the institution’s strong commitment to its student-athletes and to fostering a university experience grounded in excellence, effort, and the values of sport.
