During the meeting, both authorities explored the possibility of establishing an agreement that would allow USM students to undertake academic stays in Spain and Europe under the Erasmus program, as well as hosting Chilean doctoral students at UPV through co-supervision agreements.
USM has approximately 19,000 students across undergraduate and graduate programs and offers around 93 academic programs (undergraduate, graduate, and post-degree), including 8 doctoral programs such as Biotechnology, Physical Sciences, Applied Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence.
Moreover, USM stands out in research: it ranks 3rd in Chile and 11th among Latin American universities according to the Nature Index Research Leaders 2025, with over 100% growth in its share of publications in high-impact scientific journals.
Capilla highlighted that “USM is a highly prestigious technological institution with a humanistic vocation and values closely aligned with our vision at UPV. A formal agreement would be a strong bridge between Chile and Europe for mobility and scientific collaboration.”
Through these initiatives, UPV strengthens its international projection and expands global learning opportunities for its academic community.
