The Rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Professor Pepe Capilla, has inaugurated the Civil Engineering and Environment Week. This event, which is a tribute to graduates from 25 and 50 years ago, is promoted by the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineering, Canals and Ports of the UPV and celebrates its 30th anniversary in this edition.

The university is what its graduates achieve:

Capilla, in addition to taking a tour of the beginnings of the Week that is celebrated today and the very constitution of the Higher Technical School of Civil, Canal and Port Engineering, recalled that “The university is what its graduates achieve.” ”. The training of students has evolved in this period, incorporating activities that go beyond the classroom: “this School was a pioneer in the incorporation of internships in companies and international mobility.” The Rector has congratulated the management teams in general and, in particular, the current Director, Professor Eugenio Pellicer, for their ability to face with great success a change in social trend marked by the problem of the lack of scientific and technological vocations despite to the full employment situation that these studies enjoy.

A School in permanent evolution:

The Director of the Higher Technical School of Civil, Canal and Port Engineering, Professor Eugenio Pellicer, has reviewed the evolution of the School's training offer in recent decades, with a special focus on how the degree offer It is complemented by a wide training proposal of top-level master's degrees. The School's postgraduate training, with its official master's degrees, is focused on increasing the specialization of graduates and thus improving their capabilities to contribute to society and their job placement. In addition, Pellicer has outlined some of the school's future projects that include, among others, the implementation of the Degree in Environmental Engineering and the Erasmus Mundos Master in the field of sustainability. The Director has also presented the next dual mention of the master's degree, which will allow the graduates a greater connection with the company.

The profession in society:

Javier Machí, the Dean of the College of Civil, Canal and Port Engineers of the Valencian Community, has congratulated the graduates who are celebrating today their 50th and 25th anniversary of their graduation respectively. The Dean has thanked the important role that the School is playing in promoting the profession, not only for promoting vocations among Secondary and Baccalaureate students, but for its key role in the “relationship with the company and society as a whole.” ”. Machí has also made a certain assessment of recent years in relation to the work of the College and the Board of Directors that he presides over.

Engineers capable of addressing all domains of engineering:

The General Director of the Port Authority of Valencia, the Civil, Canal and Port Engineer Enrique Belda, has made special mention of the School's role in guaranteeing excellence in the training of civil engineering professionals. “This center is a School of the highest quality, with excellent teaching, which has trained professionals capable of addressing, not only the field of public works, but practically all domains of engineering,” highlighted the Director.

A university in permanent contact with the company:

For her part, Esther Gómez, Autonomous Secretary of Universities, has reiterated her congratulations to the participants in this event and has highlighted the School's service role towards society in general and, in particular, its permanent connection with the company. Regarding the latter, Gómez thanked the companies that collaborate with the School and highlighted the differentiating nature of the Universitat Politècnica de València: “if this university is recognized for something, in addition to the excellence of its training and the capacity adaptation of its graduates, is due to the enormous transfer activity it has towards companies.”

Capilla: “A university without internationalization is not a university”

In anticipation of the celebration of Europe Day, European project monitoring sessions have been organized at the UPV. These days, which are held between March 8 and 9, are organized by the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE), the Department of Education, Universities and Employment and the Polytechnic University of Valencia itself. These sessions, to which more than 200 people were invited, serve as a meeting point between program managers (SEPIE) and project coordinators.

Faraday Rocketry UPV, 56 students on their way to space

The Faraday Rocketry UPV Spontaneous Generation group presents Origin, the new prototype with which they hope to reach space, reaching, in the future, 100 km in height. This prototype, which is the largest and most powerful that the team has built, will carry out different tests in the coming months and will participate in the Euroc competition to be held in Portugal in October 2024.
