Today the Universitat Politècnica de València has strengthened its commitment to climate neutrality through the signing of an agreement with the City Council of Valencia. This agreement is aimed at establishing a strategic collaboration between the university and the city to incorporate the science, research and innovation vector as a key element in the process of transforming the city towards climate neutrality.
The Rector, Pepe Capilla, has highlighted the strengths of the UPV in the field of energy transition and climate neutrality, such as being the only Spanish public university certified in EMAS as well as being ranked among the top 150 universities in the World University Ranking Green Metric. The Valencia campus itself ends up being like a small-scale city where challenges similar to those of the city can be met.
The Mayor, Joan Ribó, has expressed the important role played by the public universities of the city of Valencia, the two "great universities of the city" and the need to seek synergies between the three institutions, during an event in which the Universitat Politècnica de València, the Universitat de València and the Ajuntament de València have concretized one more step in the fight against climate change.
The Minister, Joan Subitas, highlighted the intrinsic history of collaboration between universities and cities. The cities that end up becoming poles of reference are the benchmarks. "Cities and universities are two very global and very local realities at the same time. It is a relationship that has its historical origin and that now, we are in a triple transition: environmental, technological and social. Cities that want to have a future need to strengthen their links with universities and the sciences. Universities that want to have a future need to generate added value for the environment in which they are located''.
