The process of drafting the new statutes, the hiring of faculty, or issues related to university financing, are just some of the important issues derived from the implementation of the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU). The Rector, Professor Pepe Capilla, has dedicated a large part of his report to these very relevant topics during the celebration of the Governing Council on April 25, 2024.
The drafting of the new Statutes, a priority project for the Rector, is progressing at a very good pace. The Rector has informed of the upcoming presentation of the Draft Statutes in the session of the University Senate that will take place next Monday, April 29, 2024. During this session, the amendments received will be debated and voted on. The Rector has thanked “all the members of the Senate for their work” throughout the process of developing the Draft Statutes.
The Rector has reported on some of the topics discussed in the April 15, 2024 session of the Council of Universities. The imminent launch of the call for six-year terms; the commitment to finance 1.25% of GDP for R&D&I; the proposal to finance 3,400 doctoral assistant professors throughout the university system as a consequence of the implementation of the LOSU or the efforts of the Ministry in administrative simplification with the generation of a working group on this topic are just some of the issues addressed in that meeting and that the Rector has presented to the members of the Governing Council.
Regarding the draft of the Royal Decree on areas, which was pending from the previous legislature, the Rector is part of the CRUE working group on this issue: “we are working on a proposal for a single area and a single field of knowledge called ' engineering and architecture', with the agreement of the polytechnic universities.”
In addition to these points, the Rector has presented topics on the Multiannual Financing Plan, the very relevant participation of the UPV in the CHIP chairs, the public presentation of the IVIE report on the contribution of the universities or the leadership of the university in the industrial doctorates. In specific results of university activity, the Rector has highlighted the very good results obtained in the last edition of the QS ranking by subject: “we have risen in aeronautics, design, fine arts and physical engineering.”
Finally, the Rector gave the floor to the Manager, who presented the issues related to the seniority of the associate professors, and to the Vice-Rector for Innovation and Transfer, who presented the excellent research results of the UPV.
